Hello, 2 0 1 6!

"Life is always an attachment and detachment. It is a hello and a goodbye."

These were the first words our newly-installed parish priest's said in his homily last December 31, when my family and I attended new year's eve mass in 2015--and it got me thinking, "why is new year such a big deal?" I mean, sure, since the beginning of time we were taught that new year was all about making a fresh start and that it's a time to forget the past and move on from the shit that happened in the closing year, but what does that even mean?

It didn't sink in until I heard those two words: attachment and detachment

This past year has been incredibly good to me and boy, was it one hell of a ride. From finishing my undergraduate thesis (not to mention, staying friends with my college best friend/thesismate), to graduating, to traveling with my family and friends, to landing my first job, and everything else in between--I can't even describe how amazing the year 2015 has been. But like our parish priest, Rev. Fr. Lari said, It's just the way life is.

Things happen for a reason and people come into our lives to teach us something, but once they've fulfilled their purpose, it's time for us to let it/them go and move on. I know it sounds a little depressing, but it is true. We need to go into 2015 ready to let go of both the good and the bad. I'm not saying that as if I'm making room for new memories, but more so that we have to let everything that happened in the closing year sink in so that we can openly embrace what's to come in the new year.

Thanks for the memories, 2015! You were wonderful. Meanwhile, cheers everybody and Happy New Year!
